SimpleLife 1.1
SimpleLife 1.1 is now live on the App Store. I’ve made a few UI improvements and added a much-needed load / save feature, along with a “revert” button that allows you to return to the last grid state you loaded or saved. In addition I’ve added new starting patterns for the iPhone and iPad which should be a bit more interesting than a randomized grid.
I’m planning at least one more revision of SimpleLife. I’d like to improve the grid UI and iPad “playback” performance. If you’ve got suggestions for the next version, I’d love to hear it.
The new toolbar icons are courtesy of the fine folks at app-bits.

Having cleared the grid, I can not figure out how to can the initial patter (or any other pattern) back on to the grid, save by entering it by touching square by square. Surely, that’s not what was intended.
That is, how do I get to the “new starting patterns” that you mentioned above.I am using an iPad, btw.
Hi Steve. The reason for this is that SimpleLife 1.1 predates iOS 4 with it’s changes to how multitasking works on the iPad.
Because SimpleLife doesn’t use much memory, the app never resets unless you restart the app or your iPad itself. To reset the app take the following steps:
- From the home screen, or from within any app other that SimpleLife, double-press the Home button on your iPad. A row of icons should scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
- Slide this row of icons until you find the SimpleLife icon. Press and hold on this icon until you see the “delete” badges appear on the icons in this row. Pressing one of these badges will quit the corresponding app. In this case you want to press the delete badge on the SimpleLife icon.
Once you’ve done this, you will see the starting setup next time you start SimpleLife. I am working on an update to SimpleLife which addresses this issue as well as adding a few other features.
